Web Hosting For Your Domain
If you have located a domain you like and it is available you can register that domain by itself by using a domain registrar such as Godaddy, Netfirms, etc. Or you may register that domain in concert with signing up with a web hosting company.
Many webhosts offer a free domain registration or even free lifetime domain registrations when you purchase a web hosting plan. This can save you the registration costs which are typically anywhere from $6.95 and up, depending on the registrar or web host.
While the free registration is nice, I prefer to register the domain on Godaddy and then signup with the webhost. Why would I do that? Do I like to waste money? No, it's more personal preference of being able to 'house' all my domains under one roof. It makes it easier for me to change DNS settings, renew domains, and change registrant information. Usually the domain is also registered in the web hosts name, but should release it to you after your hosting account expires.
Plus, I just feel better keeping the web host and the domain separate.
